Coaching

Coaching your people is the single most important management activity to drive performance, productivity, engagement, and retention.

Coaching requires two things: a leader who knows how to effectively coach and an employee who is coachable. Coaching affects one employee at a time. It is sometimes time consuming, but it is always worth the effort. Employees own their development while the leader is accountable to develop them. Coaching is about helping people be more productive and to perform at a higher level. Coach your people and give them the autonomy to be the doers of the What. In other words, let them decide how to do what leaders need to achieve goals.

Performance

Great leaders are clear about goals and understand the steps to achieve them. Clear, high expectations are set and consistently and frequently communicated. Reinforce the behaviors and actions that are expected of employees. Hire people that have a history of high performance, collaboration, and that are a cultural fit. When you hire other leaders, make sure they are effective coaches. Ask each person on your team how they want to be coached.
